Sweatshops are good

Many people just say sweatshops are wrong without doing any actual research. Learn something before you talk.

I see you there talking

you speak loud so all can hear

yet when it is my turn to speak

you quietly disappear

how dare you ignore me

how dare you shun me

how dare you use the words I write

you do this all in spite

in spite of the friendship that could be built

bury that knife of neglect to the hilt

my heart can take it

but soon enough another will read me, will share me

soon enough another will give me wind and you will see

that while you passed me over and did not share me

I was still able to be free

And at that time I will leave you

I tell you know so you will know

It was not for what I did not read but what you did not show

What it takes

In an attempt to not be the spam blogger but also find a balance with what I share the line has become very clear. So here I am sharing with you what it takes to get a rise out of me. What you need to have in order for me to like something, reblog something, comment on something.

Liking something.
I find it fun to like things. Even things that I know bother me but the fact that someone put it up and caused my brain to think about it, no matter how much I hate it or love it. I will like it. Posts that make me think are fun to run into. But that is as far as I will go. I will like it because it made me think.

Commenting on something

I comment on things when I feel strongly about the topic. When I want to bring attention to something or when I feel that there has been a violation. It does not matter to me that I may offend, insult, or basically make someone cry. I could care less. I am commenting my opinion and my thoughts from the research that I have done throughout my life. I do not apologize for what anyone else thinks about the words that I type. I work with words daily, in my writing, in my teaching, in my life. Which is why looking back through my posts I tell people to read, reread, and then read again to what I stated, as to often than not the misunderstanding is that the individual did not read or did not comprehend my words.  But back to the topic at hand. I comment on things that draw me in. And no, it does not have to be words. Pictures, video, heck even a good title has gotten me to read it and make a comment.

Reblogging

I reblog friends that talk to me. That means if we interact with comments the more that I will reblog you. I do not reblog everything as there would be not much time for my own posts to get noticed. I do reblog others more than some but this is due to the fact that some people post more blogs and make a larger signal. But still there must be that line of communication for me to reblog. If we have talked if we have even crossed paths on a post somewhere and started to follow the chances are I will reblog your stuff. Talking helps folks.

Do I expect you to reblog me. I would like it, to that extent I will not lie. But no it is not an expectation. Still the more I reblog someone I do hope they take notice of it and decide that some of my works deserve the notice to be reblogged, commented on and liked. On an interesting topic, my words are mine and if I insult you, treat you like crap, or all in all tell you to fuck off, it is not the responsibility of the post hoster, if I am doing a guest post, or mine. Should you know me then you would understand that I do not insult, treat people like crap, or tell people to fuck off unless they deserve it. And nothing is more deserving than talking BS, trying to tell me or anyone else to change the way they behave because it offends your sensibilities.
When it comes to comments on faith, spirituality, religious matters, I default to my atheistic position. Bring me proof, verifiable, falsifiable, and testable by anyone, anywhere in the world.

When it comes to science, medicine, engineering, theoretical or not, bring me recent published papers from peer reviewed magazines.

If it is just a discussion you want then that is fine. And the final note, just because I do not agree with you is not the reason that I may insult you. Agreement or disagreement on a topic is not enough. So think clearly and post clearly. It is the only way we can keep blogs from degrading to the twitter world where everyone just starts spamming and following for the simple fact of getting more views.

Getting followers is nice but if you have 10000 followers but only 10 views per day, then there is something wrong.

The paperbacks are here

They were a hard two weeks. But I feel that I blew through them in style. I took a short trip and when I returned I was so happy to see the big brown package shoved carelessly in my mail slot. I knew what the package was and I knew that I wanted to savour the moment. I didn’t of course. Like a poor child with a free piece of candy I tore into the package. There was no savouring just the utter joy of adrenaline coursing through my system as I got closer and closer to the core.
The books are of course my first two books.
God Life without Religion and Amber Light Memories .
So now what? You may be asking. So you got paper copies how will that help the fact that you have still only sold five books. How is it any of this going to make a difference considering that Big names like J.K. Rowling has entered into the once safe zone of the Indie writer. Well the fact of the matter it will still be the uphill climb that I have been doing. I will still pluck away trying to get people to read my book. Yes I do not have a follow-ship in my books. Heck the first one is my memoirs, which most people would only think about writing when their famous. Or at least in-famous.
I am neither famous nor infamous, Most of you would probably not know me from the person sitting near you at the Denny’s. And I have to admit stepping into my head is a dangerous endeavour, that has to be taken slowly and with great skill. I do not write fantasy and fiction books for the weak of mind. And yes as I keep editing and editing and re-working my words can be read by the lower echelon of society. There lies my point. I write as an Indie writer because  I love to write. I open my head to tear our thoughts faster than my poor fingers can type. And reading my books is like pushing a screwdriver into your skull. You don’t know why you are doing it or what made you pick up the habit but there you are non-the-less. The funny thing is when you get through the ordeal of reading my work and see the other side. You few who are brave, You few who are smart enough to see past the layers may just learn something new.
Expect the paper backs of my books at an Amazon near you.

Using Pinterest to promote

I have currently started to promote my books on pinterest as an experiment.

http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?lt1=_blank&bc1=000000&IS2=1&bg1=FFFFFF&fc1=000000&lc1=0000FF&t=ebooks096-20&o=1&p=8&l=as4&m=amazon&f=ifr&ref=ss_til&asins=B007J37RFCI am promoting both books. Starting with a main focus on My Amber Light series. Since I am planning on releasing the second part of the series in two weeks. What this blog will mark and I will comment once a week to inform will be the impact if any Pinterest has on my books.
The other book I will be doing on Pinterest is God Life without Religion. What I am trying to do in the end is get plenty of exposure for my books.
If you have read my book please place a review of it on Amazon. If you want you can even Email me it and I can put the review with a link back to your blog or page in order to help each other out. I am willing to read your books and review them if that is also what you would like.

It has been four days since I started putting stuff on Pinterest. And well there has been no such growth in my sales. But it is great for mass promotion. Basically if a group of writers got together and dumped a bunch of books into boards then the chance that some would get picked and others would not is there. Though it does look like a hit or miss and even though I will still check it out for the remainder of the week I do no think my results will change much.

The first week is up and to my astonishment Pinterest shot my sales to the millions category. Nah just kidding. There has absolutely been no results from Pinterest. There may have been some clicks and views to my books or even searches that would have brought them to the Amazon pages, but there is no way to confirm that. As for sales they have stayed the same for a no name author as myself.  I will leave my pins up and maybe people will stumble upon them.
Again for Pinterest to work you would have to build a following such as in twitter, FB or google+ that would drive them to check out Pinterest. Though that extra step may just in fact stop a sale rather than get you one.

The magic of 10,000 readers

What a world it would be if a writer could just sit back and write. This would make it fun for everyone, wouldn’t it?
I mean what fun would it be if there was no one else around to critique you and you were granted an audience of 10,000 readers.  Yet getting this many readers is not so easy. In fact getting the first reader is just as hard as getting the 10,000th reader.
As writers we must constantly be pushing for a new and exiting way to capture the imaginations of our audience. Whether we are writing for fun or trying to teach something. There is always someone out there that has done something similar.
You must be asking then, why should we try?
Well the reasons are simple. The first part is basically money. We want to have a career in writing so therefore we need money to sustain our lives. Now very few are expected to hit such heights of such as Steven King or even Dr. Seuss. Yet there we are hacking away at keyboards and stories that keep popping up in our heads hoping for the following of just 10,000.
That does not seem like much of a following. I mean you will not get mobbed when you step of an aeroplane yet that number is the logical number for a base yearly salary.
Consider that a fresh Indie writer such as myself can write a book in about a years time and have a schedule where I have stacked my writing in a way as to be able to start releasing my books on time to be able to keep my audience interested in my works.
But let’s say that I have one book a year. Just one.
And with the power of Kindle and the ebook craze I can reach a world audience. Well almost considering there are some countries that block any kind of outside influence but that is a story for another blogg.

Ok I have my book. I post it on Amazon just like any other Indie writer at the average price of 2.99. that doesn’t sound like much but when you cut out the cost for Amazon we get about 2 bucks or so for each sell. Don’t worry I am rounding down in order to keep this as simple as possible. But say 2 bucks with that I was lucky enough to get 10,000 sells this year. Well there I would get about 20,000 dollars right. Well that would depend on how fast my book sold those 10,000 copies.

A better way than going for the 10,000 number of readers is to basically call it about 1000 new readers a month. That is a doable number. And for a fresh face like me I am expecting at the very top to only get about 400 readers and half of those being from free promotions.  yet if I get just 200 readers a month for the first year I can see an income of 4000 dollars for this year. Not bad considering that I could get food and such things that my family would need to make ends meet. Yet I could not write full time on that.
Now if I had ten books out right now and each was getting 200 readers a month then I could sit and write rather than getting up every morning at 5:30 to start driving to work at 6 and get there at 8am. Yes a two hour drive is common for people in my line of work and that owns a home.
So when dealing with getting to the Magic number 10,000 in readers just remember that you can dream of it but it would be smarter to spend time writing something of quality and building a fan base that will not just buy one book and say eh this was not worth the 2.99.
Another reason is because there are the constant writers out there that I would call piecemeal writers. For them it is not the fan base but the actual money that counts. For them they scour the Internet for tidbits of ideas. They fill books with links in order to try and garner as much income as possible from every single sale.
It is sad but true Indie writers are lumped among them. And for us trying to break out in the Ebook market because of the difficulty of landing a publisher. We are seen just like that. We are not seen as true writers. That is why we must care about our fan base. We must turn out quality books to show people that Indie writers are not money whores but actual writers.
There is nothing wrong with making money from Affiliate programs. We all most make ends meet. There is something wrong with publishing a book that is little more than a new way to market to people.

Please feel free to comment. Tell me if you think that I am wrong. But more importantly show me in your writing that you can turn out a good book.
The only thing I ask is that people use respectful language towards each other and avoid the use of profanity.
