The First

The First - Ebook Small

With one sister a debuting author and the other a debuting publisher, how can it go wrong?

Forever Looking Forward”. That’s their motto. And that was what they were thinking when they decided to drop everything and just do it.

Once upon a time a sister told her sister that her imagination is going wild, that she has so much to say and stories chasing through her head (don’t worry, no voices) and that escaping into that endless world of imagination makes everything (well almost everything…) tolerable. So the sister sighed indulgently and told her sister, you want to write, write. We’ll publish. People love to read.

Anna Claire Everward is now an author with already two book series on their way. And her sister? Kate Anne Everward became her publisher and her PR agent. That’s how Author & Sister was born.

A. Claire Everward – Bio

A. Claire Everward takes the world far too seriously. Passionate and sensitive to herA. Claire Everward surroundings, she takes it all to heart, sometimes too much so. but it makes her fight for what she believes in. She is direct, although she tries not to be, at least not always. Like every artist she has her quirks, some understand them and some don’t. She prefers to keep to herself and spend time with her characters, and for her escaping into writing is always the best refuge. She would say it maintains her sanity but her sister Kate says that sanity does tend to be overrated.

Claire spent years away from home getting an undergraduate degree in aerospace engineering and a graduate degree from the same faculty, with a risk management specialty. During that time she lived in the university, surrounded by forested hills and too much silence, and so to keep away the boredom she also took on an MBA, and now she feels ridiculously over-educated.

She tried to work in her field, she really did, and even put her education to good use in the finance field for a while. But eventually her love for writing took over, and she decided to leave it all and move to the world of her imagination. Her characters had a lot to do with that—they had lived in her mind, waiting patiently for her to be ready, for too long, they felt, and so they finally decided enough is enough and took over. And Claire didn’t put up that much of a resistance. She has always loved to read, but writing, that’s a whole new world she soon knew she could never give up.

She lives with her two cats, a brown tabby named Mary Boleyn who is much smarter than her and who likes to take over her laptop exactly when she wants to write, otherwise she starts throwing all kinds of stuff off the desk, and a black cat named Henry VIII who loves to jump on top of the kitchen cabinets and scream at the ceiling. Especially at five in the morning.

Nowadays, when she’s not rudely peeping into the lives of her characters, or having in-depth conversations with them, which she does tend to do quite often, Claire actually manages to do some writing. The First is only the first of her novels. With a sequel on its way and a whole new series to follow, Claire is turning her dream to be an author, a reality.

Book Blurb

The First - 3DThe First is a debut novel by A. Claire Everward, the first in a series.

Find Her.

Is the ancient directive that has once again reawakened in the hearts of those who hide.

Kill Her!

Is the frantic command of those who fear their rise.

Aelia returns from a vacation that did not go quite as she expected, to a life she does not quite feel at home in but that is, at least, hers. Or so she thinks. Within days of returning she is targeted by a hit man and she has no idea why.

But then neither does he. All Kyle Rhys knows is that to protect humanity, this woman must die. At least, he thinks, killing her will be easy. After all, the organization that has raised him has prepared him for her death his entire life.

So why can’t he kill her?

About Author & SisterClaire and Kate

When A. Claire Everward said all she wants to do was write, her sister Kate Anne decided she would use her ten-year PR and marketing experience to start a publishing company that would support it as a business.

That’s how Author & Sister was born. Now both sisters are finally doing what they were meant to do, and they are doing it as a family.

Author & Sister is not only a newly born publishing house. It is also the sisters’ story. On its website, every reader, every supporter, and every dreaming writer will be able to read about them on the Author & Sister blog. They will be able to follow what it’s taking to make the sisters’ dream come true, their breakthroughs and setbacks, the good and bad moments, the ideas and whatever interesting stories come up on the way.

The sisters expect Author & Sister to grow and one day help other authors, who like them are looking for a way to achieve their dream.

Kate A. Everward

After ten years working as a PR expert specializing in crisis and reputation management, voicing other people’s thoughts and needs and making sure they got what they want, Kate knew it’s time for a change. She’d always been a dreamer, a bookworm who escaped to her imagination when things got tough, and when her sister, another bookworm (they got it from their bookworm mother) came to her and told her she wanted to be a writer, anKate Anned already had stories and books to show her, Kate decided to help her dream come true.

And so from crisis manager she became a book publisher/marketer/literary PR agent. Her career had taught her how to fight for what she believes in, and she was tenacious to begin with, and now she’s using it all. While her sister writes, Kate is learning everything she can about the traditional and self-publishing world, and is talking to anyone, anywhere out there. She and her sister Claire have now created Author & Sister, so they can publish Claire’s books and tell the world their story.

Kate lives with her laptop (Yogi) and her 10 kg gorgeous red-haired cat who never sleeps. At least not when she wants him to. She is now starting to voice her thoughts, dreams and truths in her and her sister’s blog and is even considering writing a story of her own.

Where does the heart go.

There are many things that bring about a new view on novels. This is especially true when it comes to the romance genre. It is my opinion that this genre has seen a large shift to both extremes as to what can constitute romance.

Then there is the idea of who is qualified to write romance. While many of the top romance writers tend to be women, it is clear that this is not just a topic in which women can prevail. That is not to say that women cannot write, but quite the opposite it is to say that we can all write in any genre and should try to step away from the stereotypical ideas of who is qualified to write what.
I am a male writing romance.  I also think that I am doing quite well in the genre as my novels are unique and work well to introduce the topic at hand. Relationships and the complexity that they entail. No one relationship is the same as the other and still there is the need in society for that happy ever after.

I do not write THAT story. I am more into the reality of love. The clear fact that love can prevail and overcome. And while my endings may not be the fairytale endings. They are true to life endings and you can see how love endures beyond our wildest expectations.
So take a ride on the side of love that burns, yearns, and wrecks everything in its way in order to dominate and surpass all.

Kaoru In Loves Shadow

“So… what is the word on him?” Kaoru was direct in her question as she was in her piercing stare. “Please tell me you found something. You did… didn’t you?! I can see it on your face. What…? Tell me! He is crazy, no he is heavily in debt, married?! Yes, I knew it… he is married and I should just move on.” “Easy now,” Bill started, “Don’t get yourself all riled up before it is time. Just like your mother you are. Besides I don’t see my shirt anywhere in the room so what makes you think that I will tell you what I found out.”

Knowing that he could only poke fun at her for so long Bill enjoyed playing games with his niece. “It is going to take me time. But I promise that I will get that shirt before the end of the spring. But I must know about him.” Kaoru pleaded faking tears and all. Knowing her uncle as well as she had the tears were well planned. “It is just that I want to have what mother and father had and now here you are denying me the only information that will bring me happiness.” Turning to look out the window she managed to hide the fact that there were no tears in her eyes.

“Now, now,” Bill moved to console her. “You know that I will not be able to deny you anything. Let me tell you a bit about him. Will that dry those eyes of yours?”

“Well it depends on what you were able to find out.” Kaoru was clearly milking the situation for as much as she could. Had she done any less and her uncle would be less forthcoming with the information. There was always the chance that she was going to miss some vital point that would cause her to make a mistake and have to backtrack later on in a relationship. Robert was a man that she did not want to make that mistake with. There was so much work that she had planned to put into him that would make backtracking tiresome if not impossible.

“Well let’s see where to start.” Bill heading back to the sofa decided against sitting but rather to continue on to the books beautifully shelved and maintained. “These are really nice books now, aren’t they? It really is a shame that there is noone, not a living soul that can pour through these as your father did.” Looking down at a small table the books that had lain open for the world or any visitor to see the previous visit still… lay open in the same spot. There were even new additions to the group, as the earlier ones, had apparently in the same manner been abandoned for other projects.

Shaking his head he continued, “You know that your father would have never let the books sit as they do now. But then again you are not your father. No, no don’t get upset now it is just that there should really be someone that could take care of these books as they are meant to be taken care of.”

“What are you trying to say?” Kaoru interjected.

“Well…” Bill took his time. “This new guy that you have an interest in really likes his books. He is paranoid enough where I was not able to watch him long enough and should I had employed enough junior detectives I might have gotten a chance to follow him for more than a week. But not more than a month. What a jittery young man that you have chosen.”

Book Blurb:

Jemma Bowers hasn’t kissed anyone in over a thousand days. She knows—she’s counted.

For twenty-year-old Jemma, rules are not meant to be broken…even if she’s the one who created them. Friendships have boundaries, relationships mean trouble, and don’t even get her started on sex. Haunted by the death of her mother and her father’s abandonment, Jemma finds herself hungry for something meaningful and permanent, but is afraid of what may happen if she pursues it.

Jordan Capshaw can’t fight his addiction. Not even if it will cost him his career…

When Jemma finds Jordan drunk and barefoot in the street, she convinces him to get in her car. Aside from the fact he’s the lead singer of her favorite band and pretty much the rock star of her dreams, she quickly realizes his addiction is a monster neither of them can control.

Who knew choosing between a rock star and a fireman could be so difficult?

Emotions run high as Jemma soon finds herself caught between the troubled rock star and her growing affections for Vic Harper, a swoon-worthy firefighter from her past. But when her grandmother passes away, leaving her with no other family, Jemma’s world falls apart.

To save herself from further heartbreak, she risks it all by breaking her own rules, and putting her heart on the line.

After all, the heart just might be the biggest rule breaker of them all.

What Reviewers Are Saying:

5/5 STARS: I loved each of the characters and stayed up for two nights reading this story. I just could not put it down needing to know what would happen next!

5/5 STARS: BK Rivers has the talent to pull you into the story right from the start and make you feel like you know the characters first hand.

5/5 STARS: The story is very fast paced. It definitely sucks you in and demands you read more of it. A couple pages quickly turns into 100!

4.5/5 STARS: The story is tense and angsty. I was crying with the characters at times because I was pulled in, feeling their anger, their pain, and their grief. Raining Down Rules is a well-written emotional journey

Why did you decide to write in your genre? I naturally gravitate towards contemporary romance because I truly enjoy the journey the characters go on during the story. I love watching the evolution of relationships and how they break down only to be rebuilt near the end. And, I would be lying if I said I don’t enjoy the happily ever after—as long as it’s not rushed and feels natural.

What motivated the story of the Book? Music is one of the driving force behind any of my novels. For Raining Down Rules, I had a thought one day that involved a stoned rock star walking barefoot down a street at night. In this thought, there was a girl driving home who come across him. I started to wonder what would happen – would she try to help him? Would a relationship form out of her efforts? And with these questions, the story was born.

Intro to Characters:

Jemma is a twenty-year-old cautious woman who has dealt with a lot of heartbreak in her short life—her mother’s death at a very young age and then her father’s abandonment, not to mention a secret she’s kept since she was seventeen.

Jordan is the lead singer of White Shadow, a famous rock band and gets by on the next drink, next high or the next great lay. He’s reckless and fighting the demons of his past who haunt him at every turn.

Vic just wants to take Jemma out on a date. A fireman who also helps his parents run their farm during his time off, he’s a guy everyone can depend on and the one guy who may just break through Jemma’s defenses.

Amber Light Memories

Oh my Japan personal

Recieving such a big boost to people wanting to share just how wrong it is to discriminate I wanted to share some personal thoughts. While the story of Ariana Miyamoto :

(宮本 エリアナ 磨美子, Miyamoto Eriana Mamiko, born 12 May 1994 in Sasebo, Nagasaki) is a Japanese beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Japan 2015.

And Hakuho Sho the sumo wrestler that will never be considered champion got me thinking seriously. So why am I repeating myself, well there is a simple and solid reason for it. What I want to say is hard to talk about just as any  trauma is. I am not a stranger to racism in Japan or in the USA.

In the USA I had a math teacher who used to say that I was born in the gutter and that is as far as I will ever go. A sadistic man who clearly thought that Mexicans did not deserve a spot in the USA. To the point that he would not teach us completely in class.

And just two years ago I had attended a Japanese drinking party and if you have worked in Japan ever you will know that Japanese companies have drinking parties. I was talking with some co-workers, let me stress co-workers as they were no where near friends. Well we got into talking about my tattoos. And if anyone knows there is an old taboo in Japan about tattoos though if you search the history enough you will see that ancient Japan used to have tattoos. And the negative conotation was brought over from China and how they used tattooing.
Well we were talking about tattoos when the subject of what the perception of them were in Japan over what they actually stood for. With a heated conversation the truth came out. And if you know human psycology in the slightest you will know that acohol and anger will bring about someone’s true nature. For me it was being told that I should not become a Japanese citizen because Japanese people will never accept someone such as myself.

The shocking thing is that while I was in tears at the attempted shattering of my dream the other co-workers told me to calm down and that it was ok. Not a single one told him that the bigoted words he had used against me were wrong. So I am ashamed that in Japan people are not told that this kind of thinking is wrong. Yes in school they teach children about Martin Luther King Jr. But they do not truly see the lesson as pertinent to Japan because Japanese are not seen and do not see themselves as racist when in fact the words that are not seen as wrong are clear as racist in the USA.

I stand by my words, wrong is wrong and discrimination, bigotry, and hatred is wrong.

Book Marketing

I have read a couple of times and have heard people that classic line from Heath Ledger’s Joker and it is older than that but just to make the point. “If you are good at something, don’t do it for free.” And while this is all well and good and we all want to make money for what we do. I as an author would love for you all to buy my book. But I am not linking it here for a specific reason. And why I will not link it to when I give advice as well.

This is a new thought for me and well my older advice posts may have the links to my books but that was before I came to this decision. Marketing advice for authors should not be a pay for advice thing. You ever wonder why there are so many. and I mean many book marketers who offer free advice and advice blogs only to try and sell you on their book.

Sell 1000, a MILLION, ebooks and or books, just buy my book and I will teach you how. I see these people as good as the late night shopping people who want you to buy the easy to make money turn your trash into treasures tools. They are for lack of a better word snake oil salesmen, no don’t get me wrong, not all of them. But enough of them, a recent search that I did while thinking about this post was book marketing and there are over 600k books on the subject.

There are enough that you would think that the best course of action would be to write a marketing book and sell it. And there are books on writing a marketing ebook and selling it. That is just sick and in my opinion wrong. So I will put everything that I learn about marketing and stuff as I go for free here or on my newsletter.

Now that being said, I do not have anything against someone who actually wants to work with you and help to promote your work. That is actual money for services. This is a post aimed at those that claim to help you only to turn around and say sure I will help you, here buy my how to book. That is not help. Stop trying to sell it as help.
